Is that all there is?
‘Tis the season….for us all to look back over the nightmare strumg und drang um past year and say Thank god we’ve survived! “Wow, interesting times.” (Lol.) But seriously, the end of the year can make us all think a la Miss Peggy Lee , is that all there is? (See below.)
If you’re feeling that way, try to take a deep breath and remind yourself that essentially all the new year means is our Earth begins a brand new journey around the sun. You’re only as trapped as you allow yourself to be. If you hate your job, relationships, spin class, Facebook friends, life, sweatpants, you have the power to change it all. (I promise.) Listen: life is scary, but ultimately, life is wonderful and utterly worth it. Before you roll your eyes at me, Young American, let me remind you of these immortal lines from that true wild man Walt Whitman:
“Not I, nor anyone else can travel that road for you.
You must travel it by yourself.
It is not far. It is within reach.
Perhaps you have been on it since you were born, and did not know.
Perhaps it is everywhere – on water and land.” –Leaves of Grass
I hope that your best, the deepest part of you within yourself, is within reach in 2018.
