Wellesley, only to be there…
I wrote this piece for the Wellesley Underground, an alternative website for my alma mater. I choose the Underground as the right platform for this, since I think my piece says some things that younger women need to hear. At least I hope it does….
If you’re not “younger,” nor a woman…don’t fret, my pet*; first and foremost, I’m a human enthusiast. I think that everyone needs a coach, in one way or another. Everyone needs encouragement; everyone needs to know that someone believes in them, that they are not “weird,” or “damaged,” for being exhausted, or scared. Everyone can use moral support. I nag coach many different people, and I’d like to see them all succeed.
I wrote this piece for the younger version of myself, who was formed, in many ways, for better or for worse, by the high standards and pressures, and yes, possibilities, of Wellesley College. I wrote what I believe to be true, and what I needed to hear.
*…can’t win ’em all.
