January 1, 2014: COMMIT

Whatever it is you’re trying to get started in your life, no matter how big or small, if you’re not going to commit 100% down the line…if you’re not going to commit both when things are going your way, and when you want to crawl back into bed and cry…forget it.  If you’re not frankly obsessed, and not in that “Oh my god, I’m like so super obsessed with human rights, they’re like so kewl!” kind of way, but obsessed because you have no nothing to go back to..then, no. No, you won’t succeed, you simply cannot succeed, because doing anything, whether it’s losing 5 pounds or learning a foreign language, or going into couples-counseling with your beloved partner, is brutally hard. Re-training yourself is no joke. Why do you think alcoholics go to meetings, because they love the crap coffee? They go because even with their very lives in the balance, they need the reinforced support and help. They go to commit. You have to commit to your courage.

You may have to re-commit yourself 15 times a day, you might act and spend the rest of your day sick to your stomach, but the more you commit, the more you’ll succeed because you’ll be allowing yourself to succeed more and more, and then one day, you’ll wonder how you could have ever doubted yourself. (I promise.) But you have to commit when things are bad, and uncertain and scary and intimidating, so you can be committed when things become easy, and fun and liberating.
