“The only thing we have to fear,” as FDR famously said, “is fear itself,” and since that attitude is a huge reason why the good guys won World War Two, I would strongly suggest that anyone trying to create anything new, should must adopt FDR’s maxim as their own. Fear is your own worst enemy, because fear will waste your time and sap your strength and make you doubt yourself. You’re trying to change your world in some way, you have no time to doubt yourself.

Whether you’re trying to learn a new language, start a business, finish your novel, tell someone you love them, WHATEVER, the first thing you have to do is stop listening to your fear.  Your fear wants you to remain trapped in a lifestyle that no longer fills your (emotional) needs. If you listen to your fear, you won’t have the courage, determination and persistence to commit to all the terrifying (yet ultimately liberating) changes necessary. Fear is an addiction, and fear wants to keep the monkey on your back. So if you listen to fear you won’t take action, and then yes, that voice telling you that you are a loser will be right.  But, I promise you, you can do whatever you put your mind to, and your fear is a lying piece of sh*t.

The soldiers in World War Two were terrified as they went into battle; make no mistake about it. They were young men staring death in the face. They knew the odds were against them. They also knew that they had no choice. FDR is remembered as a great leader because he made Americans feel we could do it, we could be invincible. FDR made average citizens believe that they could be the good guys that the world desperately needed. Because people believed in themselves, they were able to muster the courage to do amazing things. People just like you. #hinthint

Tell your fear to go f**k itself; you’ve got work to do!
