31 Days 2 Get You Started! January 7: Start Loving Mistakes!

So many people love to tell me all the amazing things they’re going to do–which, in my book is awesome–but then some of them will say, “…and if I have to make one or two mistakes, you know”–nervous giggle–“well, I guess, whatever.” Wow, one or two mistakes. I’m frankly jealous. Right because that’s how people changing the world: by refusing to make mistakes. The people I’ve known who were the most stuck in their (empty) lives were the very same people who would seriously have set themselves on fire before admitting to a mistake. So they wedged themselves deeper into the misery of their day-to-day existence because it was easier to stay hopeless than ask for help, and admit they were wrong. You know who else wasn’t big on admitting he was wrong? Hitler. The failed art-student/mass-murderer/vegetarian. Hitler was not big on mistakes.

On the other hand, read the bio of any historical figure who changed the world, and invariably these men and women went through periods were they were lost in the wilderness; seemingly out of touch, derided, lonely, making mistakes. But they stuck with it–whatever “it” was–and they changed, times changed and voila!

You’re trying to re-train yourself so you can be the person you were meant to. Start loving your mistakes. They came from you and your human. Start being easier on yourself. You’re not as asshole who deserves to fail. You’re a human, doing the best you can. Start seeing mistakes as wonderful opportunities to learn life-changing lessons. More mistakes, more lessons, more progress made. Everyone else fails their way to success. Oh well, I guess you’ll have to do the same.
